The two formats
AVIF: AV1 Image File Format (AOMedia)
The newest widely supported web format. Often smaller than WebP at the same quality, but slow to encode and still unknown to many desktop programs.
PNG: Portable Network Graphics (ISO/IEC 15948)
Lossless, supports full transparency. Ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with flat colour; heavy for photos.

Does AVIF to PNG keep HDR?
No. Output is 8-bit sRGB PNG; HDR brightness information is tone-mapped by the browser’s decoder.
Is it lossless?
The PNG is lossless from here on, but it cannot restore detail that AVIF’s lossy compression removed.
Can I convert many AVIF files at once?
