Downsizes only; SVG is drawn at this size (default 1024).
Why convert HEIC to PNG?
PNG keeps every pixel the HEVC decoder produces, so it is the safe choice when the image is going into an editor for further work. The price is size: a 12-megapixel photo as PNG is often 15–25 MB.
What to expect
- PNG is lossless from this point on; it cannot restore detail the HEIC compression already removed.
- If the HEIC has a depth map or portrait matte, only the main image is converted.
- For sharing or uploading, JPG is usually the better target.
How to convert HEIC to PNG
- Tap Choose images or drag your HEIC files onto the light box (up to 100).
- PNG is already selected. Adjust quality or the longest edge if you need to.
- Press Convert to PNG, then save files one by one or as one ZIP.

- Windows: Install “HEIF Image Extensions” and “HEVC Video Extensions” from the Microsoft Store, open the photo in Photos, then use Save as and pick JPG.
- iPhone: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible makes new photos JPG. Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic converts when copying by cable.
These work one file at a time; the converter above handles a whole batch and lets you set quality, size and a file-size limit.

The two formats
HEIC: High Efficiency Image File (HEIF with HEVC)
The iPhone camera’s default since iOS 11 when “High Efficiency” is on. Roughly half the size of an equivalent JPG, but Windows, Android apps and most upload forms can’t open it without extra software.
PNG: Portable Network Graphics (ISO/IEC 15948)
Lossless, supports full transparency. Ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with flat colour; heavy for photos.
HEIC to PNG: questions
Is PNG better quality than JPG for iPhone photos?
PNG adds no further loss, JPG at high quality adds very little. For a photo you will edit repeatedly, PNG avoids stacking compression artefacts. For a photo you will just share, JPG is 5–10× smaller.
Why is the PNG so large?
Lossless compression works poorly on camera noise and fine texture. Set a maximum size (for example 2048 px) if the full resolution is not needed.
Does PNG keep transparency from HEIC?
iPhone camera photos have no transparency. HEIC files with an alpha channel (for example cut-out stickers) keep it in the PNG.
