Why convert JPG to PNG?
Some tools and templates only accept PNG, and PNG is a good working format if you plan to edit and re-save the image many times.
What to expect
- Converting to PNG does not make the background transparent; a JPG has no transparency to carry over.
- Expect the PNG to be several times larger than the JPG.
- No additional quality is lost.

The two formats
JPG: JPEG (ISO/IEC 10918-1)
The universal photo format. Lossy compression in 8×8 pixel blocks, no transparency, opens absolutely everywhere.
PNG: Portable Network Graphics (ISO/IEC 15948)
Lossless, supports full transparency. Ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with flat colour; heavy for photos.

Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. It freezes the image as it is; JPEG artefacts already in the file stay.
How do I get a transparent background?
That needs the background removed, which a format change doesn’t do. This tool converts formats only.
Why use PNG instead of JPG?
When you’ll edit and save repeatedly (no recompression each time), or when a site specifically requires PNG.
