Why convert HEIC to JPG?
HEIC keeps iPhone storage small, but the moment a photo leaves Apple’s world it becomes a problem: school portals, job sites, print kiosks and older Windows PCs usually refuse it. JPG is the format they all accept.
What to expect
- Orientation is applied, so portrait photos stay upright.
- Location (GPS) and other EXIF metadata are not copied into the JPG. That is safer for sharing; keep the original if you need the date and place.
- Live Photos: only the still image is converted; the short video part is a separate file.
- Quality 85–92 is visually indistinguishable from the original for most photos.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Tap Choose images or drag your HEIC files onto the light box (up to 100).
- JPG is already selected. Adjust quality or the longest edge if you need to.
- Press Convert to JPG, then save files one by one or as one ZIP.
Without this tool: HEIC to JPG on your computer or phone
- Mac: Open the photo in Preview → File → Export → Format: JPEG → Save.
- Windows: Install “HEIF Image Extensions” and “HEVC Video Extensions” from the Microsoft Store, open the photo in Photos, then use Save as and pick JPG.
- iPhone: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible makes new photos JPG. Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic converts when copying by cable.

The two formats
HEIC: High Efficiency Image File (HEIF with HEVC)
The iPhone camera’s default since iOS 11 when “High Efficiency” is on. Roughly half the size of an equivalent JPG, but Windows, Android apps and most upload forms can’t open it without extra software.
JPG: JPEG (ISO/IEC 10918-1)
The universal photo format. Lossy compression in 8×8 pixel blocks, no transparency, opens absolutely everywhere.
HEIC to JPG: questions
Will converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so each conversion discards a little detail. At quality 90 the difference is invisible for normal viewing. The file will usually be larger than the HEIC, because JPG compresses less efficiently.
Why is my JPG bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC uses HEVC compression, which needs about half the data of JPEG for similar quality. Converting can’t keep that efficiency; lower the quality slider or set a maximum size if you need smaller files.
Can I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?
Yes: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG. Existing photos stay HEIC. Alternatively, Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic converts when copying over a cable.
How do I convert multiple HEIC files to JPG at once?
Select or drag up to 100 HEIC photos together, keep JPG selected and press Convert. Then choose “Download all as ZIP”. On iPhone, pick photos with the Files or Photos picker; on a computer you can select a whole folder’s contents with Ctrl/Cmd+A.
Can I get HEIC photos under a size limit, e.g. 2 MB?
Yes. Enter 2000 in “Target size per file (kB)” and each JPG is squeezed under 2,000,000 bytes by lowering quality and, if needed, pixel size.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The HEIC decoder (libheif compiled to WebAssembly) runs inside this browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server; you can switch to airplane mode after the page loads and it still works.
